U 13 Silver Hertfordshire, Dec 6 2009 – Gold for Avon

An early start for Aidan Gibbons as we headed through lashing rain to Stevenage for the U 13 silver tournament.

In the singles Aidan played very well coming second in his box, beating boys from Bucks, Kent and Sussex, he narrowly missed out on qualifying in the match against Luke Pearce from Surrey, where Aidan lost 15 – 13, 7 – 15, 13 – 15. Luke went on to win the silver medal.

Doubles and Aidan was playing with Max Flynn from Berkshire. They won their box with victories over the Surrey pair, Pearce/Tung, 15 – 8, 15 – 12; and the Yorkshire pair, Adams/Reeve, 15 – 13, 12 – 15, 15 – 12. In the semi final they beat Manner/Saunders, a Surrey/Sussex pairing, 15 – 13, 15 – 12, and played Bullman and Patel (Bu/Sy) in the final. They came out deserved winners, 15 – 13, 16 – 14, after a tremendous battle. So a gold medal for Aidan and Max, and a successful pairing as they played very well together.
