Nigels report

Seven Avon U 15's made a wet way to Bournemouth, through torrential rain and massive puddles, and overall had a good day.

Boys Singles

In the singles Harry Burgess, Andy Cox and Kieran Gibbons came second in their boxes. Harry had a fantastic game against Jonathan Osborne, only
narrowly loosing 18 - 21. Michael Armstrong won one game having a tough draw which included Dorset's Ollie Baczala.

Boys doubles

All the boys doubles pairs which included Avon players got through their boxes. Kieran was playing with Alex Pang (So), and got though to the semi finals, where they lost to Dorset's Robert Booth and Jonathon Osborne, 18 - 21. Andy and Caleb did very well, but in the first of the KO rounds came up against Kieran and Alex, and lost 16 - 21. Harry and Michael had a nail
biting moment when they lost their final game in the box, which created a three way tie. Three pairs were equal on games, two of those were also equal on points, so it went to the game between them, and fortunately Harry and Mike had won that one. That gave them a game against Devon's Joannou and Brassington, which they lost 14 - 21.

Not a bad day, some very good play from the Avon players, and well done to
all. (Olivia had to withdraw, I hope she's feeling better)

Lyn's report

U15 SW restricted tournament – Sunday 17th May

Seven Avon players entered the tournament – Kieran, Harry, Mike, Andy, Caleb, Anna and Bex. Olivia unfortunately had to pull out on the day as she wasn’t feeling up to playing.   There was a high standard of play and on this occasion no-one managed to get through their boxes in the singles games.  Nevertheless everyone put in some good performances and pushed their opponents very hard.  Most notably, Harry took on gold player John Osborne and gave a very creditable performance just losing 21 – 18, and Anna played an excellent game against gold player Charis Wyatt.

In the girls doubles, Anna and Bex had a three-way tie in their box and after some point-counting were announced winners of their box.  This meant that they had to play Kathryn Saywell and Amy Reddaway in the semi-finals.  A tough game in which they battled hard but unfortunately just lost out on.

All three pairs in the boys doubles came second in their respective boxes.  Harry and Mike came up against the winners from Andy and Caleb’s box – George Joannou and Simon Brassington – and they also lost out to them.  In the other quarter final Kieran and his partner, Alex Pang from Somerset, were then drawn against Andy and Caleb.  After a good match Kieran and Alex were the victors here.  They then went on to play John Osborne and Robert Booth in the semi final, but lost out to this strong Dorset pair who are very accustomed to playing with each other.

It was good to see quite a few pairs from Avon doing us proud.  Well done everyone.
