U15s Shires League. Avon win against Derbyshire at home.

Written by: Nigel

Girls

Bex Cox, Anna Manley, Ana Riesco, Saskia Manson

Boys

Henley Ngan, Dennis Perry, Kieran Gibbons, Brendan Foreman

An excellent result for the U 15's who are now one win away from qualifying for the Shires League finals. In the end three games were lost, and one had to be abandoned when Brendan turned his ankle and hurt an old injury. However, by that stage, as the team were 16 - 3 up, conceding the game had no impact on the overall result.

There were some excellent matches which went very close, including a storming singles match between the first boys, Henley and Matthew, which Henley won 2 -1. Dennis had some good performances, in particular where he and Henley turned round the first boys doubles after he and Henley lost the second to win 21 - 13, 18 - 21, 21 - 8. Kieran and Brendan both had good
performances winning their games comfortably, and it was a shame that in their final doubles they had to concede when they were fighting their way back into the game after loosing the first.

Saskia fought well all day despite feeling unwell, and won a tough singles 22-20, 21-14. Ana fought hard throughout the afternoon to win all but her final doubles. Bex and Anna did well, particularly coming into their level doubles after having lost their singles matches against those same opponents, where they won the doubles match 21 - 9, 24 - 22.

Derbyshire fought hard throughout the afternoon, they played some good badminton and were great  opponents, but fortunately the Avon players were strong enough to come out comfortable winners.

Well done everyone.
